Lesley Murphy

Lesley Murphy

Dr Lesley Murphy is a Registered Clinical Psychologist working as a Consultant Clinical Neuropsychologist. She has worked with people with neurological disorders for over 40 years. She has worked in both NHS and specialist services, including the Royal Hospital for Neuro-disability, a specialist hospital for very severely brain-injured patients. Dr Murphy has also worked in a Community Neurorehabilitation team, she was the clinical lead of a vocational brain injury rehabilitation programme and was a visiting Consultant for a Brain Injury Service in the West of Ireland.

Dr Murphy is a Registered Clinical Psychologist and an Associate Fellow of the British Psychological Society and holds a current Clinical Psychology Practising Certificate. She is a member of the BPS Division of Neuropsychology. She is the author of a number of journal articles in the field of Neuropsychology and is actively involved in research in developing assessment methods for people with disorders of consciousness. She is the author of the Cognitive Assessment by Visual Election (CAVE), an assessment tool for those emerging from disorders of consciousness.

Dr Katherine Pierce

Dr Katherine Pierce

Dr Katherine Pierce is a Chartered Clinical Psychologist with twenty years’ experience in neuropsychological practice. She specialises predominantly in the field of acquired brain injury, combining NHS supervisory roles with independent practice. Within her independent practice, Dr Pierce undertakes neuropsychological assessment and rehabilitation work. She also works within the multi-disciplinary concussion clinic at Hobbs Neurological Rehabilitation Services.

Dr Pierce previously worked for ten years as Lead Clinical Neuropsychologist for the central London Borough of Camden, managing a team of neuropsychologists employed across community and in-patient rehabilitation settings. She worked closely with families, health and social care professionals and a range of statutory and voluntary organisations. She has also worked at the Regional Rehabilitation Unit at Northwick Park Hospital with adults who had acquired moderate to profound brain injuries.

Dr Pierce is a Clinical Psychologist registered with the Health Care and Professions Council and holds a current Clinical Psychology Practising Certificate. She is an Associate Fellow of the British Psychological Society (BPS) and is a member of both the BPS Divisions of Neuropsychology and Clinical Psychology. Dr Pierce is listed on the BPS Specialist Register of Clinical Neuropsychologists and the Register of Applied Psychology Practice Supervisors.

Dr Paul Venn

Dr Paul Venn

Dr Paul Venn is a Clinical Psychologist and Neuropsychologist who has worked solely in neuropsychology since qualifying in 2011, across a wide range of services for stroke and brain injury survivors as well as those with degenerative neurological conditions. Whilst most of his experience has been gained in the NHS, Dr Venn also previously led both the clinical team and the neuropsychology service in a BIRT (now Brainkind) residential neurorehabilitation service (independent sector provider). More recently, Dr Venn has also worked privately.

In total, Dr Venn’s experience working with brain injury survivors in various contexts spans over 20 years. Dr Venn is a Chartered Psychologist, Full Practitioner Member of the Division of Neuropsychology and a Practitioner Psychologist registered with the Health and Care Professions Council, After qualifying, he achieved further qualifications (Diploma in Clinical Neuropsychology, Certificate in Neuropsychology Practice) and is listed on the British Psychological Society’s Specialist Register of Clinical Neuropsychologists.

Dr Venn has published journal articles in the field of neuropsychology/rehabilitation and has provided neuropsychology teaching to doctoral trainees in clinical psychology at the University of Sheffield.

Prior to qualification in clinical psychology, Dr Venn worked for many years in a medico legal setting, drafting reports for care experts, acting for both claimant and defendant representatives, often in high value personal injury/clinical negligence claims. His work included analysing/summarising reports from medical and other experts and equipped him with knowledge and experience of the different aspects of expert witness work. Previously he part qualified as a Solicitor and has experience of acting for claimants in personal injury litigation claims.

Dr Kate Humphreys

Dr Kate Humphreys

Dr Kate Humphreys is a Consultant Clinical Neuropsychologist. She has worked with people with neurological disorders since 2009 for both the NHS and within private practice. She has worked as a neuropsychologist at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery, at the Neuropsychiatry and Memory Disorders Hospital in St Thomas’ Hospital, at Hurstwood Park Neurological Centre and at the Royal Free Hospital. Most recently she helped establish a Clinical Neuropsychology Department at the Cleveland Clinic new private hospital in London.

She has conducted research at both Imperial College London and Carnegie Mellon University. She holds the QiCN gold-standard qualification in Clinical Neuropsychology and is on the British Psychological Society’s Specialist Register for Clinical Neuropsychologists. She is an Associate Fellow of the British Psychological Society and a member of the British Neuropsychological Society and is registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC). She is the author of a number of journal articles in the field of psychology and neuropsychology.

Dr Humphreys also prepares reports for the Court in relation to the neuropsychological status of people who have sustained a brain injury. She prepares about 30 such reports a year, to date all on behalf of the claimant. She has made two court appearances in which she was cross-examined. She has undertaken specialist training courses in Expert Witness work run by the British Psychological Society, the Expert Witness Institute and Bond Solon.

Dr Sally Duncombe

Dr Sally Duncombe

Dr Sally Duncombe is a Registered Clinical Psychologist working as a Clinical Neuropsychologist. She has worked with people with neurological disorders for over 20 years, working across both NHS and private settings. Dr Duncombe has experience of working across the full range of severity and complexity in this regard, including holding a position at the Royal Hospital for Neurodisability, a specialist hospital for very severely brain injured individuals and a vocational rehabilitation service.

Dr Duncombe has worked with presenting difficulties across the lifespan. Dr Duncombe worked in mental health with children and young people in her role at North East London NHS Foundation Trust (and within the private sector). This includes gaining significant experience of assessment of neurodevelopmental conditions in children and young people (e.g. Autism/ADHD) and Learning Disability.

Dr Duncombe has also published research in the area of Cognitive Neuropsychology and Executive Functioning and her research interests include the development of ecologically valid neuropsychological assessments.

Dr Duncombe has worked alongside Professor Gus Baker, Clinical Neuropsychologist undertaking neuropsychological assessment for the last seven years. Most recently, Dr Duncombe has provided reports for the court (currently 60% claimant; 40% defendant).

Dr Duncombe has a Batchelor of Science degree in Psychology, a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology and is due to commence PG Certificate in Clinical Neuropsychology. She has completed Bond Solon Expert Witness Training and is accredited with the Health Care Professions Council and the British Psychological Society.

Dr Joanne Mun Yean Chan

Dr Joanne Mun Yean Chan

Dr Joanne Chan is a Chartered Clinical Psychologist specialising in neuropsychology. She obtained a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from the University College London in 2015. She completed a Postgraduate Diploma in Clinical Neuropsychology with distinction at the University of Bristol in 2019. She is also an Associate Fellow of the British Psychological Society, a member of the Division of Neuropsychology, and is registered with HCPC.

Currently she works as a lead clinical psychologist in a community neurorehabilitation team within the NHS in London. She also undertakes neuropsychological assessment and rehabilitation privately in both English and Mandarin. Since commencing her psychology career in 2007, she has worked in the field of mental health and neuropsychological settings including mental health services for adults and older people, memory clinic, inpatient brain injury rehabilitation, and community brain injury rehabilitation.

Her clinical and research interests include assessment and rehabilitation of acquired brain injury, and psychosocial interventions in dementia care. She is the author of several journal articles in in the field of dementia care, cognitive impairment and functional neurological disorder. She is also a journal peer reviewer.

Dr Masuma Rahim

Dr Masuma Rahim

Dr Masuma Rahim is a clinical psychologist, neuropsychologist, systemic practitioner, and expert witness specialising in brain injury and mental capacity. Dr Rahim is registered with the Health and Care Professions Council and chartered by the British Psychological Society. In 2019 she was appointed Special (Medical) Visitor to the Court of Protection and the Office of the Public Guardian by the Lord Chancellor. In July 2023 she was appointed Director of Professional Ethics and Standards for my professional body, the Association of Clinical Psychologists (UK). Dr Rahim is a member of the Committee on Training in Clinical Psychology, the national clinical psychology accreditation board. She is also a Visiting Lecturer at the University of Hertfordshire and an External Examiner for the Clinical Psychology Doctoral Programmes at the Universities of Karachi and Bahria.

Dr Rahim has a particular interest in both mental capacity law and the intersection of brain injury and offending and am frequently instructed to conduct comprehensive neuropsychological assessments on those serving custodial sentences, including indeterminate sentences for public protection. She has significant experience of reporting to Parole Boards to inform risk management in the community.

Dr Rahim has written over 100 expert reports since 2019 and have been cross-examined in Crown court, and has published a number of peer-reviewed academic papers in the areas of neuropsychology, developmental trauma, the management of sleep disorders, and adolescent substance use. Dr Rahim is presently co-editing a clinical handbook of applied neuropsychology, due to be published by Routledge in 2026.

Dr Martha Turner

Dr Martha Turner

Dr Martha Turner is a Consultant Clinical Neuropsychologist with 25 years’ experience in academic and clinical neuropsychology. She works in independent practice as a treating and expert Neuropsychologist, with particular experience and expertise in complex community-based rehabilitation.

She was previously Co-founder and Clinical Director of Cognivate Rehab Ltd, and prior to that held clinical positions at Homerton Hospital, the Wolfson Neurorehabilitation Centre, St Georges Hospital, and Wandsworth Community Neuro Team. She has held academic positions at the Institute of Cognitive Neuroscience, University College London, the National Hospital for Neurology & Neurosurgery, and Macquarie University, Australia.

Dr Turner is a registered Practitioner Psychologist with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC), a Chartered Psychologist and Full Member of the Divisions of Neuropsychology & Clinical Psychology of the British Psychological Society (BPS), and a Member of the British Neuropsychological Society (BNS). She is on the BPS Specialist Register of Clinical Neuropsychologists, the gold standard for clinicians practising in neuropsychology.

As well as her clinical practice, she has been extensively involved in research in Neuropsychology. She has been awarded a number of grants and fellowships, published 20 peer reviewed chapters and journal articles, and has spoken widely at national and international conferences.

She has been offering expert reports to the court since 2020, and has completed the Bond Solon Courses on Civil Law and Procedure for Expert Witnesses, Excellence in Report Writing, Courtroom Skills, and Personal Injury Essentials.
